Nice Site ! My mother gave me a glass vase last month called "Whitefriars glass" so I did a search...... I've now found, thanks to your site that I now own a Indigo or Kingfisher 'Banjo' (13inch+) !

Peter: I had, in my "former life" as a retailer of fine giftwares and pioneered selling PW's in a retail store v. antique dealers, the pleasure of selling many Whitefriar items. Currently I own the Olympic Rings PW. Interesting, I don't believe they ever obtained permission to use the rings from the Olympics. Or, did they? BTW, I beleive there is a small glass studio in Southern England that got its start with ex-Whitefriar's artians. It is Merlin Glass Studio and they make very interesting glass door knows and drawer pulls. I'm happy to see that you're keeping the name alive. Alan Alan J. SUPERB SITE. I have acquired about 14 pieces of Whitefriars over the past 8 years. I buy it when I see it dirt cheap! A V. casual collector! I was under the impression there were only about five or six different shapes in only four different colours. How wrong I was. Your site has increased my interest and I will be on the lookout for more odd shapes. My last purchase was a concentric/TV vase for £1.50. EXCELLENT WORK YOU ARE DOING. KEEP IT UP.

Hello Sharon, "Brickie" has arrived safe & well. Many thanks. I am delighted with my purchase. My own vase was broken several years ago by a friend's child(aargh!)and I had searched everywhere for a replacement, but I only knew it was called Whitefriars glass.Nobody had h ard of Whitefriars and I despaired of finding one. Imagine my delight when the very first weekend my son set me up "on the net" I found the website. My email to Peter was the very first one I had sent. Thanks again, Linda Looby

Incredibly interesting. It was nice to go to the web and find exactly what I was looking for. I knew nothing about Whitefriars until today, except that I had two vases which I had been told were Whitefriars. Now I know they are knobbly!

Thanks for the Email last week drawing our attention to your website. We'd already been using it as a useful reference site for 6 months or so. ( Many Thanks !!) My wife and I have only been collecting Whitefriars for about a year so our collection is still pretty small. It was actually my brother who introduced us to the glass, as he has been collecting for 2 to 3 years, in the good old days when pieces were still widely available (and reasonable). Best Wishes, Nigel & Sarah Thomas

I've looked at your site on previous occasions. GREAT job!! Nice information and graphics. You have a FABULOUS collection of Baxter texture and mould glass. I particularly like the banjo large vases. I, unfortunately, do not have one of these in my collection. I'm a private Whitefriars collector. I have some mould blown Baxter pieces but actively collect random strapping and studio peacock vases. My collection, however, centers on early Powell ribbon and cut glass pieces. Unfortunately, the RARE and MINT condition items are very difficult (or expensive) to acquire. I began collecting Powell/Whitefriars when I live in London. I meet one of the glass blowers (unknowingly) when I bought my first "interesting" piece of "glass" at a local antique store near Wealdstone. With NO previous knowledge of Whitefriars, an elderly gentlemen near the stall explained the history of Whitefriars and his "days" as a blower. If only I'd asked his name and realized the impact of his conversation on my future Whitefriars collecting. Since my return to the US in 1997, I've found only TWO pieces of quality JPS. Thankfully, with the advent of the Internet, it is now convenient to continue collecting Whitefriars glass. Peter, I appreciate the email and opportunity to discuss Whitefriars glass. Have you thought of producing an UPDATE reference book with all your pieces? I you hear of someone with Peacock vases or MINT Powell cut let me know. Regards, Jay

I'm envious of your collection, particularly the banjo vases. The collation of auction prices on your web site is very useful. I'm afraid I probably did outbid you on a sage bricklayer - don't hold it against me! Will keep an eye on your website. Keep in touch. Craig PS You probably realise I'm in Australia

Absolutely brilliant web site, music a wee bit annoying, but the content is great. I thought I had a good collection until I saw what some of these guys have. Never mind I'll catch up.

I am alone been collecting whitefri's for a half year and i am only 14 but i am fascinated by the glass designs of Geoffrey Baxter and with my £25 pound a week i have managed to buy some rare shapes such as 4 Druken brick layers 10" (my impressive sage gr en the other 3 tangerine, kingfisher blue and sea green). I think you have a very impressive collection and your website is 100% quality.

pete, great start to the site, as rob says we will have to do better. suggested changes I would make would be to dispence with the music. I would also like to see the early screens less jumbled because I have difficulty in picking up the text. You have a splendid collection!!

Your site is fascinating and I wish it every success. My small ongoing collection is purely for sentimental reasons. My Uncle, Grandfather and Great Grandfather all worked at the Whitefriars factory. My Grandfather worked from aged 14 years until he ret red in 1963 at the age of 65. We have a few pieces of Whitefriars glass in the family, but I can remember pieces being thrown out or broken. In particular I remember when growing up we had two large round yellow lampshades hanging from the ceiling. The had brown rings around them. My mother does not remember where they went! She also remembers playing marbles with the paperweights outside the factory. It is really great to see so much enthusiasm with the Whitefriars glass collection. I will keep lo king, as I suspect you all will. Good Luck.

Excellent web site, puts our feeble effort to shame, we will have to do better! Great idea for a Whitefriars forum, do you think fellow collectors will share any snippits of info that they have found out?
